Progressive Republican Establishment Indicts House Freedom Caucus instead of Hillary Rodham Clinton

By Scott Rohter, October 2015

NelsonRockefeller1They used to be known as “Rockefeller Republicans” while the Vice President and former Governor of New York was  still alive, but unfortunately time waits for no man, not even for one of the richest men in the world and the heir to the Standard Oil fortune. Time and chance happens to us all… even to Rockefellers, but after Nelson Rockefeller’s death we have come to refer to liberal Republicans like him as the Progressive Republican Establishment or just plain RINOs for short. They are the ruling elite of the GOP. Republicans in Name Only is a phrase that they richly deserve… just as richly as Nelson Rockefeller did.  There was nothing conservative about Nelson Rockefeller and there is nothing conservative at all about any of the RINO Republicans that follow in his footsteps today. Progressives have been ruling the Republican Party with a few notable exceptions ever since the days of Nelson Rockefeller’s grandfather John D. Rockefeller, the man who created Standard Oil. The progressive Republican Establishment was just as opposed to Ronald Reagan when he ran for the Presidency in 1976 and 1980 as they are opposed to the Tea Party Movement today which testifies to the enduring influence of progressives in Republican Party politics..

John Boehner 2John Boehner is a member of the Progressive Republican Establishment and for the past five years he has been the do nothing Speaker of the House of Representatives who has both accommodated and facilitated just about every aspect of President Obama’s progressive legislative agenda. He recently resigned his position as the Speaker of the House because he didn’t have the support of the members of the House Republican Freedom Caucus.

KevinMcCarthyJohn Boehner’s heir apparent and the next in line for the Speaker’s job was Kevin McCarthy who is currently the House Majority Leader. Everybody just assumed that he was going to be the next Speaker, but he quickly resigned from the running because he also didn’t have the support of the members of the House Freedom Caucus, and it’s no wonder. Last week Kevin McCarthy publically went on the record criticizing the Benghazi hearings. He suggested that the hearings were politically motivated and that they should come to an end. What do you expect from a member of the Progressive Republican Establishment?  Perhaps Mr. Boehner and Mr. McCarthy would both like to support Hillary Clinton for President too.

Now instead of indicting Hillary Clinton on a number of possible different charges including her role in the deaths of four Americans at Benghazi, her misuse of a private email server to store official government emails, and all of the shady financial dealings of the Clinton Foundation… instead of indicting Hillary Clinton… the Progressive Republican Establishment has decided to go after the only real conservatives left in the House of Representatives. These are the members of the House Republican Freedom Caucus, and the GOP Establishment is pulling out all of the punches in order to disgrace and discredit them.

JohnBatchelor
Many members of the mainstream media who work for the Progressive Establishment like John Batchelor of the John Batchelor Show which is aired on WABC out of New York City, and Mary Kissel of the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, as well as certain members of Congress like the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee David Nunez and the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Paul Ryan are singling out members of the House Republican Freedom Caucus for undeserved contempt and scorn and possible retribution. I have heard John Batchelor routinely speak more kindly of Barack Obama than the conservative members of the House Republican Freedom Caucus. He refers to this group of conservatives as a cult, a sort of blood brotherhood, and a secretive group of obstructionists who don’t seem to know what they were sent to Washington to do, as if their constituents actually elected them to surrender to liberal Democrats and Democrat collaborators like John Boehner.

I think we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the determined members of the House Republican Freedom Caucus who still have conservative principles and who still know how to fight for those principles.  Up until now they have been using fire to fight fire… the same type of fire that the Speaker of the House and the Majority Leader routinely use to commandeer the votes they need to pass President Obama’s legislative agenda and to punish members of Congress who don’t vote the way they are expected to vote.

The Freedom Caucus forced John Boehner to resign as Speaker of the House. They were instrumental in getting Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to bow out of the race when most observers thought he was a shoe in for the job. Now the Freedom Caucus has to decide who to endorse, and who they are going to vote for as individuals, and they have to decide whether or not they are going to cave in to Paul Ryan’s demands to eliminate the Vacate the Chair Rule… Have we come this far only to fall just short?

We don’t need Paul Ryan to be the next Speaker of the House. He has a horrible position on illegal immigration and he supports a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens. The person who eventually becomes the next Speaker doesn’t need to be acceptable to Harry Reid or Louis Gutierrez either. We need the right man for this job. We need the right Speaker of the House. This is not the time to compromise or to listen to the frantic appeals of liberal Republicans for unity. The success of failure of the next administration begins right now with the right Speaker of the House. Paul Ryan is not that man. A headless House of Representatives would be better than a House of Representatives with the wrong head. We also need to retain the “Vacate the Chair Rule” which is what allowed the conservative members of the House of Representatives to remove John Boehner in the first place.

Mr. Batchelor complained that the rules set up by the House Republican Freedom Caucus are bizarre. Well, just for your information the rules of the House Freedom Caucus are no more bizarre than the rules for the rest of the House of Representatives, or the filibuster and cloture rules of the United States Senate,… or for that matter the rules changes that the Republican National Committee voted on and passed at the last Republican National Convention while they put the entire Virginia delegation led by Morton Blackwell on a chartered bus and drove them around in circles all around the city as they voted. Put that in your little microphone Mr. Batchelor and broadcast that to the Big Apple.
