Mitt Romney: More Than a Little Bit Insincere
-by Scott Rohter, September 2011
“I would rather be found guilty of making a serious mistake in judgment, than to be accused of being even a little bit insincere.” That is a quote from John Quincy Adams, America’s 6th President. He was the oldest son of John Adams, our 2nd President, and you don’t get much more America than that! Furthermore, they were both from Massachusetts, so it makes for a perfect beginning to this story.
Former Governor Romney of Massachusetts is being more than a little bit insincere about his Massachusetts Style State Healthcare Plan, ‘Romney Care’. It is the model for President Obama’s National Healthcare Plan. I know Governor Romney comes off looking rather good on television, but he has certainly had enough practice at being in the national spotlight, so he should be rather good at it by now! Nevertheless, his model of government run healthcare is the model that President Obama used to impose his National Healthcare Plan on the whole Nation, and Governor Romney is trying to weasel out from under that millstone around his neck by just calling it a States Rights issue! We conservatives should not let him get away with that! It is not a States Rights issue as much as it is an individual rights issue! It is a matter of personal choice! I don’t want any Government, Federal or State, telling me that I have to purchase a product, i.e. an insurance policy. Governor Romney says that if he is elected President, he would grant wavers to every state on his first day in office, but under ObamaCare, in order to get such a waver, each State has to come up with it’s own Health Care Plan that is just as onerous as the President’s plan. While Romney said that ObamaCare must be repealed, he never said that he would be the one to repeal it! That may not turn out to be such an insignificant distinction. And besides this, his actions speak a lot louder than his words, especially in the middle of an election campaign! What’s more, fifty State Wavers will not dismantle or defund ObamaCare! The entire National Healthcare bureaucratic apparatus will still be in place, ready and waiting to be funded, and institutionalized by the next left-wing Democratic Administration that gets in power. And the legislation that empowers it will still be on the books, unless it is repealed! So as I said, Governor Romney is being more than a little bit insincere. Nothing conservative can come from Massachusetts! And nothing conservative has come from Massachusetts since the days of John and Samuel Adams, except for America’s distinguished 6th President, John Quincy Adams, but that was a long time ago, and the Adams Family lives only in the history books now!
Anybody that supports Governor Romney in this race over the three-term Congresswoman from Minnesota, Michele Bachmann, is just content to temporarily halt the progressive agenda of the Left for 4 to 8 years, instead of reversing course, and reversing the direction that our country has been headed in, for the past one hundred years, ever since the Presidency of Woodrow Wilson!
