All the Men are Playing Ball
 or “The Whistle Call of the Referee”

Who will answer freedom's call
Join the struggle to save us all
And stand shoulder to shoulder straight and tall? 
All the men are playing ball.

Who will teach us what is right
Lead us through the darkest night
And help us keep our goals in sight? 
All the men are playing ball.

Will they stop their game to join the fight
To defend our freedom and preserve our right
Or will they just play on till the whistle blows
And leave us outnumbered to contend with our foes?

What is the real purpose of a game
But to teach the rules of honor and shame? 
The game is just the means to an end.
If not the men playing ball, then whom will we send?

Perhaps we can send those watching the game
Who are watching the men enjoying their fame
But I'm afraid that the answer is the same
"Not now, I'm busy,   I'm still watching the game".

So blow the whistle and commence to play
The real game put off for another day.
And should our opponent to those terms not agree,
No matter, I think I hear “the whistle call of the referee.”
