The Standard by Which We Will Judge the 112th Congress
-by Scott Rohter, August 2011

The Republicans of the 112th Congress will be judged by how much of the Obama Administration’s legislative agenda they are able to debunk, defund, and de-construct, and how much of the liberal legislative juggernaut of the 111th Congress they can stall, block, restrict, rewrite, or repeal!  Here is just a partial list of some of the rather dubious accomplishments of the Obama Administration and the 111th Congress.

  1. ObamaCare (a.k.a. ObamaScare!)
  2. Repeal of Don’t Ask- Don’t Tell
  3. New Start Treaty with Russia (pending Senate approval)
  4. Banning of the incandescent light bulb
  5. Increasing Federal regulation of the food industry (a.k.a. food control!)
  6. Administrative Amnesty for ‘illegals’

It isn’t enough to just stop the leftward slide of the nation during the past three years of the Obama Administration!  The Republican majority in the House of Representatives must somehow find a way to reverse the direction of history, and re-direct our country back to the right, in order to just find where the center is again!  They will be judged by their deeds and by the success of their actions, not by their words!  Passing pointless Bills or Resolutions in the House that die in the Democrat-controlled Senate, and will never be signed into law, is just a public relations gimmick!  There have been several of these stunts in the current session of Congress, but they are merely political posturing, and they are a total waste of everyone’s time!

Voting to repeal ObamaCare, when everybody and their mother knows that the Republicans can promise all kinds of serious conservative reforms now, which they might not really want, because they know that all the bills will be killed by the Democrats in the Senate, might give them an opportunity to appeal to their base, but it doesn’t really do anything for anyone in America!  We would all like to know what the Republicans would really do if they ever had control of both Houses of Congress and the WhiteHouse again, but we are a little bit gun shy after our last experience, when they actually did have control of both Houses of Congress and the WhiteHouse during the Bush years!  I think we would all feel a lot better with a few more actual TEA Party Republicans in Congress before we turn over they keys to them again!
