2011 Congressional Budget Deliberations
Show Us The Spending Cuts

February 2011

The following is a list of the Republican members of the Congressional Budget Committee and their Washington D.C. phone numbers. Call these Congressmen and tell them to get serious about cutting the Federal Budget. The Paul Ryan budget proposal for 2011 saves only about $60 billion for this fiscal year. It is inadequate! At that rate it would take almost 300 years to pay down the National Debt! The CATO Institute has drafted a report called "Downsizing the Federal Government" in which they offer recommendations which if fully implemented would result in a net savings of almost $500 billion annually, but even at that rate it would still take almost 30 year to pay down the National Debt. The latest Paul Ryan budget proposal for 2012 proposes to cut 6 trillion dollars over the next 10 years. Tell them that you support that! And they should pass it out of committee 44 to 0!  We have a country to save, and precious little time left to do it in! So if what it takes to pass a good budget proposal, is to shut the government down, then I’m sure we can all live without the government for a little while!  As Senator Jim Demint says, BRING IT ON!  Just leave the military alone, and don’t pass anymore continuing budget resolutions!  And don't raise the Federal debt ceiling which would only allow the government to borrow more money and get even deeper into debt! What’s wrong with Congress is not that they don’t know how to compromise, it’s that they compromise way too much on matters of principle! We need to get serious about cutting the Federal Budget! Ask the Congressmen to read the CATO Institute’s report, “Downsizing the Federal Government” and to follow their recommendations to the letter, or urge them to support the 6 trillion dollar debt reduction budget proposed by Paul Ryan! In addition, tell them NOT to raise the Federal debt ceiling. To read a summary of the CATO Institute Report, click here.

UPDATE: The compromise Budget Deal agreed to last week by President Obama, Speaker Boehner, and Senator Reed only proposes to cut $38 billion dollars from the fiscal budget for 2011.  At that rate it would take over 300 years to pay down the National Debt!  But that is assuming that there is no interest on the National Debt.  However there is interest on the National Debt! The interest payment for last week alone is even greater than the actual $38 billion dollar budget cuts that they agreed to! Last week’s interest on the National Debt was $54 billion dollars!  It eliminated any potential savings envisioned by either the $60 billion dollar Paul Ryan Budget Proposal or the $38 billion dollar compromise.  Let’s get serious about cutting the Budget and tackling the National Debt!  The $38 billion dollar Budget Proposal needs to pass both Houses of Congress.  Now is the time to get on the phone and call any and every member of Congress and tell them not to support this deal.  It is a sellout, not a compromise!  The phone number for the Congressional switchboard is: 1-202-224-3121.
