<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nA Coterie of\u00a0Republican Sycophants<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n by Scott Rohter, December 2012 \/\u00a0Updated February 2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n A coterie is defined as a loyal following of enthusiastic fans and supporters. A cattery is simply a\u00a0boarding house for stray cats. These are two very similar sounding words with vastly different meanings. In Oregon there are\u00a0catteries, and there are coteries, but there is only one\u00a0place in\u00a0the\u00a0whole \u00a0State where a cattery and a coterie\u00a0exist together in the same location… only\u00a0one\u00a0organization\u00a0that combines both the functions of a cattery and a coterie.\u00a0This is an organization of particular interest to me because of the unique\u00a0breed of cats that it houses. It is the Oregon Republican Party.<\/span><\/p>\n After\u00a0Alley stepped down as the Party State Chairman\u00a0he\u00a0launched another campaign\u00a0for Governor in 2016. His enthusiastic supporters are referred to\u00a0by some as “Alley Cats”. Now that he has his managed to place his own people in control\u00a0of the Republican Party in most of the State’s thirty-six Counties, the Republican Party has become\u00a0his own personal “cattery” or coterie.\u00a0 This has continued\u00a0on with the election of Bill Currier as State Party Chair and his recent re-election in 2019 over Sam Carpenter who happens to be a real conservative.<\/span><\/p>\n Wherever I post my commentaries these days they are generally well received. Many people,\u00a0 sometimes even thousands of people read them, and share them\u00a0 on Facebook, except in my own home State of Oregon. Here I am treated like an outcast ever since Bob Tiernan stepped down as the State Party Chair. Instead of reading my pugnacious commentaries about politics Oregon Republicans readily launch into ad hominem attacks upon me\u00a0for daring to state my\u00a0opinion. Why is Oregon\u00a0so different than most of the other forty nine States? I will attempt to answer this question.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n I used to think that it was something in the water which made\u00a0Oregon so different. After all we do have some of the most\u00a0unique water sources in the whole\u00a0world. The State’s biggest metropolis Portland\u00a0is located in the northern part of the State right at the confluence of two major rivers, the Willamette and the Columbia. That\u2019s why when\u00a0 Oregonians refer to RINOs the phrase has a dual entendre. In addition to meaning Republicans in Name Only it also means Republicans in Northern Oregon! The two words are synonymous.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n I used to think that the phenomenon which makes northern Oregonians so different than\u00a0the rest of the people in this State was caused by something in their water\u00a0 Bull Run Reservoir\u00a0is the source of the drinking water for the entire Portland metropolitan area. Perhaps\u00a0there\u00a0was a liberal virus that is being spread mostly now through human contact, one which was originally transmitted by a waterborne pathogen from the depths of Bull Run . <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Maybe that explains all of the bull that people from Portland are typically so full of.\u00a0 That\u00a0would go a long way to explaining why Portland is the way that it is, and why so many people call it \u201cMoscow on the Willamette\u201d.\u00a0 But whatever is causing the people of Portland to lose\u00a0what’s left of their common sense is not just limited to Portland anymore. It is spreading to other parts of the State and even beyond our borders to the rest of America. Where ever you\u00a0go you can see people\u00a0exchanging their common sense and traditional values for progressive ideology and looney liberal fantasies at a very\u00a0alarming rate.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n A few years ago the Republican National Committee Chairman was Reince Priebus.\u00a0 When his name was first bandied about for the position of RNC Chair he was supposed to be this staunch conservative guy from the backwoods of Wisconsin. but time proved otherwise.\u00a0 To our\u00a0horror he turned out to be a very effective obstacle for conservatives principals..\u00a0He\u00a0and\u00a0another member of the Good Old Boy\u2019s Club, the Congressional dunderhead from Ohio,\u00a0 former Speaker of the House John Boehner\u00a0rigged the Republican National Convention at Tampa and changed the Rules to make it much harder for\u00a0grass roots activists to have any meaningful impact on the Party at\u00a0a national level.\u00a0 He also pulled\u00a0various other\u00a0shenanigans during his\u00a0tenure as\u00a0Chair of the RNC. (Read my article entitled Wisconsin Shenanigans.) <\/span>http:\/\/lessgovisthebestgov.com\/Reince-Priebus-GOP-chairman-shenanigans.html\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n When\u00a0Donald Trump picked Reince Priebus in 2018 to be his Chief of Staff it was probably a sincere\u00a0attempt to make peace with the\u00a0political Establishment… but he didn’t last long at the White House…\u00a0At around the same time John Boehner was stacking Congressional Committees with Republican sycophants who were willing to do his bidding.\u00a0\u00a0Boehner removed four conservatives from their positions on key Congressional Committees including Tim Huelscamp from the State of Kansas who was a real favorite of the Tea Party. If John Boehner wasn\u2019t going to be the death of the Republican Party\u00a0he\u00a0was certainly going to be around to administer the last rights and attend to all of the funeral arrangements, but then an amazing thing happened.\u00a0 All of a sudden after\u00a0meeting the Pope he found religion and resigned.\u00a0\u00a0 For a while hope was running rampant in Washington with speculation that maybe Louis Ghomert might become the next Speaker of the House, but\u00a0alas\u00a0to our chagrin another RINO stepped up to take\u00a0his place, and Paul Ryan did an admirable job of filling\u00a0John Boehner’s\u00a0less than conservative shoes.\u00a0He was also from Wisconsin just like his buddy Reince Priebus…<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile\u00a0back here in my\u00a0own home State of Oregon\u00a0Republicans are cursed with even more stupidity than\u00a0John Boehner, Reince Priebus,\u00a0and Paul Ryan together\u00a0can administer. From the State\u2019s top leaders all the way down to local PCPs,\u00a0for over two decades this State continues to pick some of the least qualified and most\u00a0 ineffective people to lead the Republican Party.\u00a0The situation\u00a0here is much worse\u00a0than it is in other States. That is why the Oregon Republican Party continues to remain irrelevant to this day.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/em>Allen Alley was once the State Chairman of the Oregon Republican Party. He\u00a0sought the\u00a0Party’s nomination\u00a0for Governor in 2012 but he was defeated in a very close\u00a0 Primary race by the man who went on to lose to\u00a0former Democrat Governor John Kitzhaber in the General Election. That man’s name\u00a0was Chris Dudley.. Neither Allen Alley nor Chris Dudley\u00a0are particularly conservative, but\u00a0Dudley actually beat him in the\u00a0Republican Primary fairly and squarely!\u00a0 Yet there were plenty of hard feelings,\u00a0so in an effort to heal the Party’s\u00a0rift Mr. Alley was hand<\/span>-picked to become the State Chairman of the Republican Primary, but he has never given up his\u00a0dream of becoming the State’s Governor.<\/span> That is why he continues to appear on so many media forums emanating out of Portland.<\/span><\/p>\n
