Harney County Commissioner Steve Grasty Survives Recall Vote<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"judgeA County Court judge who also sits on the Harney County Commission which\u00a0by any reasonable definition is a\u00a0conflict of interest survived a\u00a0vote to remove him from office today. The recall vote was a result of his actions and the decisions he made as a County Commissioner during the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Steve Grasty is the Oregon judge who denied permission for the residents of Burns, Oregon to use a public building to meet with the protestors from the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. The use of a public building was requested\u00a0so that Ammon Bundy could explain to\u00a0concerned residents of Burns what he and\u00a0the other protestors\u00a0were hoping to achieve by occupying the\u00a0Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.<\/p>\n

Judge Grasty was one of the strongest critics of Ammon Bundy and one of the principal opponents of the occupation of the Refuge. Today\u00a0the decisions and the statements\u00a0he made during the occupation of the Refuge were vindicated by the decisions of a majority of the\u00a0townspeople of Harney County\u00a0who voted not to recall him.\u00a0 Unfortunately the voters\u00a0included\u00a0many State and Federal government employees who\u00a0live in the\u00a0city of Burns.<\/p>\n

After driving most of the private businesses out of Harney County by creating a wildlife refuge and a government wilderness area the Federal government now employees just about everyone who is left.\u00a0About all\u00a0that\u00a0is\u00a0left to do for a living in Harney County\u00a0is to go to work for\u00a0one government agency or another. Just about everyone who lives\u00a0in Burns\u00a0is a liberal and works for the government so then it is not much of a surprise that Commissioner Grasty\u00a0survived the recall vote. What is\u00a0surprising\u00a0 is that the residents of Burns didn\u2019t actually nominate him to become their representative in the State Legislature too!<\/p>\n

If there is any justice to be dispensed in\u00a0Harney County it won\u2019t be found in this referendum on Judge Grasty, or\u00a0Commissioner Grasty, or Representative Grasty or whatever\u00a0government title he chooses to hang over his office door, and it won\u2019t be coming from\u00a0the hallowed halls of\u00a0the County Courthouse either. Judge Grasty will continue to sell out the State of Oregon to the Federal government as long as\u00a0the people of Harney County continue to give him a\u00a0platform from which to do it.<\/p>\n
