Actually there are two definitions. A progressive is someone who claims to be enlightened or forward thinking, someone who supposidly wants to improve the quality of life for everyone. But there is another definition\u00a0of the word <em>progressive<\/em> that is\u00a0more troubling and more than a little\u00a0problematic. It is not the definition that\u00a0first comes to\u00a0mind however\u00a0when you mention the word progressive.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0It describes a process\u2026 a step by step process, of\u00a0incremental change that is slow but unrelenting in its push.\u00a0Consider\u00a0the following examples.\u00a0 <em>He is suffering from progressive heart disease<\/em>, or\u00a0North Koreans <em>are suffering from a progressive tyranny<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The word <em>progressive<\/em> can mean\u00a0either one of these two entirely different ideas when it is used. The meaning has to be determined from the context in which the word is used, but sometimes that is not possible.\u00a0 For instance, the word <em>progressive<\/em> comes from the root word \u201cprogress\u201d,\u00a0but progress is in the eye of the beholder. It can be viewed as either good or bad. Progress has\u00a0a definite subjective value attached to it at all. Progress\u00a0is generally understood to be a good thing,\u00a0however it can be entirely the opposite at times. Progress simply denotes a change\u00a0n from a previous\u00a0position, but whether that change is\u00a0good or bad is all in the eyes of the beholder. In the case of\u00a0voting rights\u00a0it is all in the eyes of\u00a0Eric\u00a0Holder, the embattled Attorney General.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lessgovisthebestgov.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ERic-Holder-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3144\" alt=\"ERic Holder 3\" src=\"https:\/\/lessgovisthebestgov.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ERic-Holder-3.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a>Right now Eric Holder is suing the State of Texas to overturn their voter registration laws. They\u00a0seek to ensure that only people who are legally entitled to vote in\u00a0Texas can in fact vote. The\u00a02016 General Election will hinge on the ballot returns from two southern States\u2026 Texas and Florida which are increasingly becoming overrun by\u00a0illegal aliens\u00a0who reliably vote Democratic.\u00a0 Texas is trying to ensure that only people who are in our country legally can vote in\u00a0Federal Elections. The Obama Justice Department on the other hand is trying to make sure that all of the illegal aliens in Texas are registered to vote in time for the next General Election in order to ensure a Democrat victory in Texas and thus in the Electoral College. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">May I suggest to the State of Texas that they simply stop\u00a0welcoming so many\u00a0illegal immigrants\u00a0to the U.S.A.\u00a0\u00a0They should take away some of the incentives that cause so many illegal aliens to wind up in the State of Texas, like\u00a0in-State college tuition benefits at Texas colleges and universities. If Texas wasn&#8217;t so friendly to illegal aliens and they just moved to a Blue State than they\u00a0wouldn&#8217;t have\u00a0such a significant impact on our next Federal election.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The term progressive has a subjective element to it. \u00a0What you view as progress\u00a0really depends upon how you view the world around you\u2026 Do you\u00a0view progress as an\u00a0straight line in one direction or is it more like a\u00a0never ending circle.\u00a0I think too much\u00a0progress in any particular direction eventually brings you right back to where you began on the political circle of life.\u00a0Politics like so many things in life is a delicate balancing act, and the best position on the circle is the location that provides you with the best balance.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When our country was founded in the 18th century our Founding Fathers were viewed by their contemporaries as very progressive. The other countries of the world were still ruled by Kings who\u00a0 believed in such nonsense as \u201cDivine Right\u201d. The forward thinking intellectual leaders of their day were John Locke and John Milton. They\u00a0preached the values of the Enlightenment.\u00a0 Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams, and George Washington were all great fans of theirs, but they would\u00a0by no means\u00a0be considered\u00a0progressive today.\u00a0Our Founding Fathers and the men\u00a0who inspired them\u00a0that were the great philosophical leaders of their\u00a0time would not be considered enlightened anymore by a progressive&#8217;s standard today.\u00a0The word progressive has come to mean something entirely different today then it meant to Thomas Jefferson or James Madison. The men who created our country are viewed by today\u2019s progressive standard as rather backward Neanderthals who did not drive cars, or use computers, or even enjoy the simple benefits of in-door plumbing..
