Innocent Victims of a Government Vendetta
By Scott Michael Rohter, May 2017
They have been in jail for almost a year and a half. Every day for the last month they have spent in solitary confinement, twenty-three hours and forty-five minutes a day, locked up in a small cell, each man by himself at a Federal Correctional Center in Southern Nevada. They are totally innocent victims of a government vendetta. Imprisoned without bail, they have been denied their constitutional rights by a Justice Department that doesn’t honor the Constitution, and a government that holds itself exempt from popular criticism.
Ammon and Ryan Bundy are political prisoners in a country that is becoming more and more un-recognizable with each passing day. Several months ago Ryan Bundy was severely beaten in a Portland, Oregon jail by prison guards. Last week his younger brother Ammon was tortured and beaten to within an inch of his life by prison guards at the Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada. After that he was stripped naked, tightly handcuffed, hands behind his back, and locked up in a three foot wide shower stall where he spent the night without any heat. For over 13 hours was forced to endure this kind of inhumane treatment by the government of a country that he truly loves and in spite of what it is doing to him, he still believes in. He was nearly beaten to death by prison guards who are not even fit to lace his boots.
On top of the deliberate and systematic physical abuse, the Bundy family has been forced to incur over a half million dollars in legal bills and their courtroom battles are not over yet. All these things have happened to them because they dared to believe in the United States Constitution. They believe that the “world’s greatest democracy” can be held accountable by the people. They unmasked the truth about what is really going on in our country and they showed the whole world that the our government isn’t following the Constitution anymore.
It wasn’t sufficient for the federal government to lock up two brave young men in the prime of their life and keep them away from their wives and children for almost two years. The government also incarcerated their 71 year old father, Cliven Bundy who is the principle target of the government’s ongoing vendetta, and it locked up two of their other brothers, Mel and David.
Cliven, Mel, and David Bundy have also been locked up for over a year. With the four brothers and their elderly father all behind bars now, there are just two men left in the Bundy family who are not in jail… two men who have not been the target of a government vendetta that have been allowed to remain free, at least until now. All of the Bundy women… the wives, the daughters, the mothers and the grandmothers have all been left to fend for themselves… to raise their children, to run the ranch, and try to manage all of their personal and family affairs.
The Bundys are American patriots and heroes… every one of them… the men, the women, the mothers and the daughters, the fathers and the sons. They have been targeted by overly ambitious, career minded federal prosecutors who are hell bent on destroying them. The vendetta now involves the Administrations of two American Presidents and both political Parties. It is a bi-partisan, high stakes drama with real life and death consequences for each person accused, and it has been allowed to play itself out in federal court without any intervention from either Barack Obama or Donald Trump.
Cliven Bundy and his four sons are political prisoners. They are prisoners of conscience in a country that is increasingly ruled by men and women without any conscience. The next chapter in their heroic story will be written in District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada sometime later this year when the United States government will once again put the Bundy family on trial for simply refusing to surrender their rights as enumerated in the United States Constitution to the ash heap of history, and to agents of the federal government who don’t believe in history, rights, or the Constitution
