A Jew Looks at the Muhammad You Tube Video

By Scott Rohter, September 2012

The 13 minute long You Tube Video on Muhammad is as much a blatant mockery of the art of film-making as it is a mockery of the serious subject matter which it is attempting to discuss. It is a fool’s attempt to deal with a very difficult subject that is fraught with danger. Unfortunately just about anybody can make a film these days, but judging by the amount of likes and dislikes that this video has received it is obvious that most Americans regardless of their religious persuasion agree with me. This video sucks! AND SO DOES THE FILM THAT THIS VIDEO IS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE! The last time I looked, this video had received almost 55,000 dislikes and only about 14,000 likes. By a wide margin of almost 4 to 1 Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of this film! People of the Muslim religion and across the Middle East should take note, and take heart!

The video clip and the film are a fool’s attempt to discuss the historical facts surrounding the life of Muhammad and the rise of Islam. Any subject as serious as these deserves nothing less than a very serious discussion by acknowledged experts!  Instead this video is a slapstick comedy done by amateurs in very poor taste, and it is laced with sexual innuendo.  It doesn’t even pass for good comedy! No one in their right mind would even consider making a comedy about this subject, and no one in their right mind would even think to make light of this subject, or to attempt to deal with it in a satirical, whimsical like manner the way that this movie does. It is a subject that demands only a very serious discussion, by serious scholars and filmmakers alike!

In a word the person who produced and directed this video and this film is a jerk! The people who acted in it (if you can actually call that acting) are jerks, and anyone who watches it and likes it is also a jerk! On a scale of one to ten, based on this video, I rate the film a minus ten! And I am not going to spend my hard earned money going to see this stupid film!

I am not a Muslim. I am a Jew by birth, and I am a Christian by re-birth. I found this YouTube video to be extremely disgusting, highly provocative, and very inflammatory!  It is a sad reflection upon our decadent society that anyone would even think of producing such a film like this, and it seems even more discouraging that it would even find an audience. It appears deliberately designed to provoke and inflame, and to be as thoroughly disgusting and repulsive as possible, as well as to satisfy some inner urge of the film-maker to belittle an entire religion and culture. If that is what the producer of this film wanted to do, then he certainly succeeded. He seems intent on destroying the little bridges that we have somehow managed to build with great difficulty over time between differing world views rather than on building new bridges to help narrow the divide. That doesn’t mean that I want to capitulate to Islam. I do not! But I don’t think it helps to deliberately inflame our adversaries for no good reason either.

Stupid idiots like the maker of this film make me ashamed to be an American. I celebrate freedom of speech, but I detest selfishness and stupidity, both of which qualities the maker of this film seems to have in abundance! Therefore I have no problem understanding the disgust and anger that many peaceful Muslims feel over the making of this film and the showing of its trailer on the internet, just as I find the disgusting behavior of the mobs of Hell-bent Muslims exacting their rage out on innocent Americans just as reprehensible.
